Weekly Progress 3

We presented our back brief to the class and it seems as if Russell has accepted our interpretation of the original brief.

As we now have the go ahead I've been researching materials to use for our Bus Stop of the Future. Timber seems like the go-to material but there are many constraints and issues with using this material.

One of the design ideas was that the bus stop be easily constructed and de constructed in order to be moved around. This means the material must be light as well as portable, and still maintain its strength. Another factor is that the bus stop is open to the weather elements despite its design incorporating a roof. This means the wood must be protected in some way from the main threat of water.

The design incorporates many wooden sheet panels all placed together to create this bus stop. The panels are all separated by gaps to create a sort of waffling technique. This means that one of the most suitable types of materials would be wooden sheets. This would allow us to create single pieces rather than interlocking timber pieces.

As part of my research I have looked at wholesalers and retailers of wood sheets rather than wood types themselves. This allows me to get ideas of pricing and sizes rather than just the outlines of the type of wood.

The following is the presentation from my group:
